Emotional Intelligence (might be more important than IQ)
Hello fabulous friend!
Here’s a quick look at Dr. Travis Bradberry’s 4 core skills of emotional intelligence (EQ).
Think about why EQ might be more important than IQ alone.
No one does business alone. That means business equals relationships (other people). Understanding yourself and others is such an important skill! At the very least, it’s more important now than ever in this rapidly changing world.
Self Awareness - Lean into the discomfort. Take an objective look at yourself. Know your strengths and weaknesses. What rubs you the wrong way in others? If you spot it, you got it! Haha.
Self Management - What you do with what you're feeling, matters. Not stuffing it down. It will erupt. You can compartmentalize it to deal with it at a different time, but you still have to deal with it. Positive emotions need to be managed also. Name the emotion, then sit with it.
Social Awareness - How does the world look through someone else’s eyes? Understand how someone else is motivated, not how to motivate them. Trust your intuition. You can have an emotional reaction to what you're seeing before your brain is even able to know what you’re seeing. Your limbic system is processing what you don’t know you’re seeing. But you can feel it. This is intuition. Awareness is just sitting with it.
Relationship Management - Using all 3 above makes you better in all relationships.
