Who were you as a child?
Hello amazing friend!
From a very young age I was on a quest to find out the answers to questions that (something inside of me) was asking.
Being in a family of 4 kids and 2 parents, I wasn’t alone. But I always enjoyed being alone. With a book or a journal.
They say our experiences shape us. I would also suggest that we seek out what interests us. I heard recently again - think about what you loved as a child. It can help you uncover parts of yourself that mattered and you may have lost along the way. As I reflect on my childhood I see it!
I was maybe 10 and I remember sitting in my Oma and Opa’s blue van (think the A-Team van) asking my Christian cousin who God was. I mean she went to church so it made sense that she would know. I wasn’t raised in any doctrine or told what to believe so I was curious.
At 12, I read the book, “Are you there God, it’s me Margaret.” I remember relating to it and since then books have always helped me understand myself more and feel understood.
I remember reading some old western novels found on my parents bookshelf at the cabin. Definitely inappropriate for my young and innocent eyes. And I really enjoyed those! Haha. So much so that I had dog eared all the sex scenes and at some point my dad found it and said Kristi this is not a book for a girl your age. How embarrassing!
In grade school my girlfriend and I would write each other letters and I had a binder full of poems. What I would give to re-read them today! Even then, I had a lot to say!
At 17, I read the book “Light His Fire” and gave my second boyfriend “Light Her Fire.” He had so much of that book highlighted and said it was the best book he’d ever read.
When my dad was in his last months of life, I was able to live with him and my mom. He shared with her one day - ‘it’s sure nice having her here and wow she really has a lot to say.’ Haha. See my friend, I come by this honestly!
So now I see it. I can connect the dots.
I was always curious
Believed in something bigger than myself
Loved - love, sexuality and relationships
Enjoyed my alone time and loved learning/reflecting/writing
